MATERIALS USED

All VETOFLEX® products are made using materials of the highest quality based on the highly elastic LYCRA® fibre renowned for its great stretchability. The fibres are capable of stretching to seven-times their original length and return to their original condition without any damage once the stretching force is removed. It is a basic quality that persists over the long term in LYCRA® fibres.

Before they are used in our products, LYCRA® fibres are braided with polyamide in Switzerland. The resulting yarn forms the base of all our products.

VETOFLEX® products also contain microfibre. This artificially made polyamide fibre provides excellent qualities in terms of keeping outside moisture and cold at bay while the porous structure of the material helps to wick sweat away from skin. Microfibre materials closely resemble natural silk in both look and feel while the surface is resistant to pilling. Microfibre also maintains its desirable qualities despite washing and cleaning.

Microfibres are very fine (less than 1 tex), finer even than natural silk. Compared to microfibre, cotton has fibres three times and wool as many as four times as coarse.

Another material used in VETOFLEX® products is yarn containing silver. Selected VETOFLEX® products contain one of two types of silver-containing yarn.

01 When LYCRA® is braided thin silver fibres are added imbuing the resulting material with an air of exclusivity due to its silver shine and the specific manufacturing process. This Swiss-made yarn can be found in bandages and belly band of the Therapy Silver product lines.

02 The second type used in our products is the SKINLIFE fibre, manufactured from an advanced mix of polyamides (microfibres) that contains inherent silver particles integrated at the level of the polymer matrix and providing the resulting fibre with antimicrobial qualities. This way the antimicrobial effect is permanent, i.e. never lost due to washing. This fibre is used in sleeves and knee stockings for riders.

Silver demonstrates antimicrobial effects against a wide range of bacteria (e.g. Escherichia coli, Chlamydia trachomatis, Providencia stuartii, Vibrio vulnificus, Pneumobacillus, Staphylococcus aureus, Candida albicans) and other pathogens. It can also accelerate healing of small wounds and bruises and prevent moulds, mycoses and eczema.

  1. Yarns used in VETOFLEX® products contain no nanomaterials as defined in Commission Recommendation 2011/696/EU and as such are considered biologically safe.
  2. Since the antimicrobial agent (silver) is present in the form of fine fibres or micro particles there is no risk of migration of silver into the skin and no risk of an allergy developing.
  3. Silver fibres or micro particles can also be never washed out of the material ensuring efficient antibacterial protection over the entire life of the product.

VETOFLEX® sleeves feature crimped polyester, soft and comfortable to touch, very much like natural silk. Its major benefits include high stability and resistance to light, climatic influences, and microorganisms as well as low moisture absorption that enables it to dry quickly.

Riding knee stockings VETOFLEX® are made with the use of cotton fibre. Once again, VETOFLEX® takes the path of utmost quality and our knee socks thus contain mercerised and singed cotton that gives them a smooth and cooling silky feel. Cotton treated in this way has very little tendency to pill and fluff.

MICROFIBRE

This artificially made polyamide fibre provides excellent qualities in terms of keeping outside moisture and cold at bay while the porous structure of the material helps to wick sweat away from skin. Microfibre materials closely resemble natural silk in both look and feel while the surface is resistant to pilling. Microfibre also maintains its desirable qualities despite washing and cleaning.

Microfibres are very fine (less than 1 tex), finer even than natural silk. Compared to microfibre, cotton has fibres three times and wool as many as four times as coarse.

LYCRA®

Lycra® is a synthetic, highly stretchable polyurethane fibre, a member of the elastan family. VETOFLEX® products use Lycra® by INVISTA.

Lycra® fibres are typical for their exceptional elasticity. They are capable of stretching to seven-times their original length and return to their original condition without any damage once the stretching force is removed. It is a basic quality that persists over the long term in Lycra® fibres and one that sets the material apart from other elastan fibres that may lose their elasticity over time. The fibres may be woven without further treatment or they may be braided, depending on the technology chosen. VETOFLEX® products contain braided fibres. Products using Lycra® are valued for their increased elasticity, shape stability and improved draping that combine to elevate wearing comfort to a whole new level.
